CURRENT TERM

Record

The clearest way to understand my approach is to look at decisions where costs, risk and trade-offs were real.

FINANCE & GOVERNANCE

Work from the numbers outward.

The role

I currently serve as vice-chair of Stratford’s Finance and Labour Relations Sub-committee. Its mandate includes budgets, capital forecasts, tax collection, purchasing, grants, labour relations, Festival Hydro financial reporting and economic-development updates.

My approach

Capital announcements are only one part of the decision. I focus on financing, operating cost, lifecycle obligations, contingencies and the other priorities a commitment may displace.

GRAND TRUNK

Move the community hub forward, but define the public exposure.

The issue

Council approved the next phase of Grand Trunk renewal, including up to $15 million toward a shared community facility, market sounding for private development and a wider parking strategy.

My position

I support the hub and a phased mixed-use redevelopment. Before larger commitments, partner contributions, operating costs, market interest and the City’s maximum financial exposure should be clear.

POLICE HEADQUARTERS

Deliver an essential facility with stronger project control.

The issue

Council approved the purchase and renovation of 10–52 Wright Boulevard for a new police headquarters, with an estimated total project cost of $36 million.

My position

The police service needs a functional facility. My focus is on city-controlled project management, transparent cost reporting, disciplined contingencies and financing that avoids unnecessary short-term pressure on the levy.

MUNICIPAL AIRPORT

Question whether continued municipal ownership is the right model.

The issue

In 2023 Council voted 7–4 to continue municipal ownership and contracted operation of the airport while pursuing revenue and development initiatives.

My position

I voted against that decision. I believed the City needed firmer financial conditions and a serious examination of alternative ownership or operating models before continuing an open-ended municipal commitment.

TOURISM & MAT

Keep tourism policy focused on the whole visitor economy.

The issue

The Municipal Accommodation Tax Ad-Hoc Committee was established to recommend a policy for the City’s share of MAT revenue.

My position

I favour a unified framework that keeps Destination Stratford central while considering accommodations, restaurants, retail, arts, culture and other parts of the visitor economy together rather than creating competing objectives.
